October 23, 2006 New York, NY
Many dedicated donors and supporters enjoyed an evening filled with food, friends and fundraising at The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence "Stand Up For a Safe America" event, at Cipriani's 23rd in New York City, on Monday, October 23, 2006.
The Brady Center honored Michael Wolkowitz, President of MJM Creative Services; Geoffrey Canada, President and CEO of Harlem's Children Zone, Inc.; and acclaimed actor Richard Belzer. Master of Ceremonies, comedian Lewis Black, entertained the guests with his hilarious commentary.
As part of the celebration, NY Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly presented Det. First Grade James H. Mantone of the NYPD Firearms Suppression Unit with the James Brady Law Enforcement Excellence Award.
Joining in the evenings' program were Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Center; Representative Charles B. Rangel; former Mayor David Dinkins; Diane Weathers, Brady Center Board of Trustees Member; and inspiring gun violence survivor, Weusi Olusola. The evening was punctuated by two incredible films, produced by MJM Creative Services, focused on ridding our communities of illegal guns.
During the evening there was an exciting live auction and silent auction. The Brady Center was proud to receive such wonderful donations, and would like to thank all our supporters, volunteers and auction donors for their time, energy and commitment to Standing Up for a Safer America! Special thanks are due to Event Chair Carrie McCully and Auction Chair Amy Pines. If you would like to support the Brady Center now, please click here.
